The village of Praia da Luz is situated on the Western Algarve approximately one hour west of Faro airport, and a short drive from the larger, historic town of Lagos.

Praia da Luz nestles in its own bay amongst terracotta roofed cottages and low rise apartments and slopes down to a lovely stretch of golden beach. The bay itself is beautiful and famous for “Black Rock” jutting out into the crystal blue waters. The narrow winding streets and houses are covered in bougainvillea, hibiscus and morning glory throughout the year.

Praia da Luz benefits from a first class array of restaurants and beach bars. These are frequented by locals and tourists alike. Many restaurants serve typical Portuguese dishes as well as international cuisine.

Resort
facilities

Praia da Luz is a small resort which means that all facilities are easy walking distance from the town centre.

The town has all the required amenities such as a post office, bank, cash dispensing machines, several supermarkets, pharmacy, English-speaking doctors surgery and dentist.

There is a well-equipped private hospital in nearby Lagos, although we advise all visitors to ensure they have adequate travel and medical insurance, as emergencies can be expensive.

Anglican church services are held on Sunday in the local church.

Tennis is available, including lessons and friendly tournaments, at the Luz Ocean Club and in the nearby Burgau sports centre.

If water sports are your preference, there are facilities on the beach providing banana boat rides, para-sailing, sailing lessons and fishing excursions. From Lagos you can try deep-sea fishing, take a day trip dolphin safari, or visit the grottos by fishing boat. There are several surf centres offering day trips to wherever the waves are best on the day.

If you would like a day away from the pool or the beach, there are some themed parks you can visit, such as Slide and Splash at Lagoa and Aqualand at Alcantarilha.

In addition, Zoomarine, a large aquatic based theme park is also worth a visit, offering visitors an amusement park, swimming pools, a picnic area in addition to shops and restaurants.
